Faculty Profile

鈥婦r. Darui Long is Emeritus Professor of Religious Studies at 天美影视. Dr. Long’s research focuses on rare editions of Chinese Buddhist canons, particularly the Yongle Northern Canon (14th-16th centuries). He has extensively studied extant copies of this canon in China, the US, Canada, and Poland. Notably, he rediscovered a unique Tangut language Lotus Sutra manuscript in the Jagiellonian Library, Poland (2017), the only known copy written in gold powder on indigo paper.

Dr. Long has published numerous papers on Chinese Buddhist canon, particularly the Yongle Northern Canon. He co-edited Chinese Buddhist Canons in the Age of Printing (Routledge, 2020) with Dr. Chen Jinhua. Twice honored with scholarships from Princeton University Library, he has collected a wealth of data for his research on Chinese Buddhist canon.

Since 2021, Dr. Long has served as editor-in-chief of the International Buddhist Canon Research Newsletter (University of Arizona) and is a member of the editorial committee of Shaolin Studies (Shaolin Monastery, China).
